Statement on the Tragic Killing of Israeli Embassy Staff in DC

The Jewish Federation of Northeastern Pennsylvania expresses horror and outrage at the murder of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, two young people who were attending a program organized by the American Jewish Committee at the National Jewish Museum in Washington DC. The two slain youths worked as staffers at the Israeli Embassy, where they met and fell in love.

The attacker made it clear that he was motivated to “free Palestine”. This cruel assassination highlights the consequences of antisemitic and anti-Israel incitement, and how more often than not, perpetrators of anti-Jewish violence make no distinction between the two. We call on all Americans of good will to condemn in the strongest terms this wanton act of domestic terrorismand to work together to eradicate anti-Jewish and all other forms of hate. Antisemitism, racism and other forms of discrimination not only have no place in American society, but they also lead often to racist violence which often ends, like in the case of Yaron and Sarah, in the death of innocent young people.

Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim were two young people starting their lives and about to be engaged. These are two lives cut short for no reason. We stand with their families and we hope they will find solace and consolation in their memory.
