Shterna & the Lost Voice

December 18 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Join us for Shterna and the Lost Voice, a captivating storytelling journey blending folklore, live music, and mesmerizing visuals. This enchanting new folktale by A.C. Weaver draws inspiration from mythical stories of Elyahu Hanovi and Yiddish tradition.

Follow Shterna on her epic quest—from the shadowy realms of the dead to the celestial gardens of the immortal—as she seeks to restore her friend’s lost voice. The story unfolds through a stunning papercut crankie, accompanied by live klezmer music that brings every twist and turn to life. This dynamic performance is perfect for audiences of all ages!

Meet The Magid Ensemble
This imaginative performance is presented by The Magid Ensemble (magid, meaning “storyteller” in Yiddish), a collaboration of award-winning klezmer musicians Mattias Kaufmann, Raffi Boden, and Rachel Leader, alongside Yiddishist storyteller A.C. Weaver and visual artist Kiah Raymond. Together, they weave sound, story, light, and shadow into an immersive storytelling experience that’s not to be missed.

What is a Crankie?
A crankie is a long scroll of illustrated storytelling magic, hand-cranked to reveal scenes as the narrative unfolds. Kiah Raymond’s original design incorporates shadow puppetry inspired by traditional Jewish papercut art, creating a visual spectacle that enhances this unforgettable tale.

Crankie Workshop

Immediately following the performance, participate in a hands-on crankie-making workshop!

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind storytelling adventure and hands-on immerse workshop! No cost to attend.
