Ellen Kowitt will be speaking at UJA Annual Campaign Opening Event on “What’s Jewish About Jewish Genealogy.” Kowitt is a veteran Jewish records researcher and leader in genealogy activities worldwide.
Interest in understanding our family history and cultural connections has only increased in recent years with the invention of the easy genetic test. Linking and recording family relationships dates back to the recording of the Table of Nations found in the Book of Genesis. Professional genealogist Ellen Kowitt will explore the values and traditions rooted in Judaism that might frame a family history project and will touch on the mystery surrounding genealogy and how to get started researching your family history.
Ellen Kowitt is the director of JewishGen’s USA Research Division and vice chair of the Daughters of the American Revolution Jewish Task Force. She is a past president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Colorado and also of Greater Washington and has served on the IAJGS Board of Directors.
