Opening Event of the 2013 Campaign Season called “Compelling”
Over 100 came to……….Unmasked: Judeophobia
The Scranton JCC was the venue for the Opening Event of the UJA 2013 Campaign season. The Jewish Federation was proud to present the riveting documentary Unmasked: Judeophobia produced and directed by Gloria Greenfield.
After a refreshing dessert reception by Colfax Avenue Kosher Caterers, Dassy Ganz (representing the Jewish Federation of Northeastern
Pennsylvania) welcomed everyone to the Opening Event and explained the role the Jewish Federation fulfills on a local, national and international level as the parliament of our Jewish communities in NEPA.
She introduced this year’s 2013 UJA Campaign Chairs, Don Douglass, Jeff Rubel (also Federation president) and Barbara Nivert (Women’s Campaign Chair) whose collective unflagging commitment to our Federation and Jewish causes in general is well known.
Gloria Greenfield, President of DocEmet films, explained the need to produce this documentary in light of growing global anti-Semitism and the demonization, defamation and de-legitimization of Israel that has once again become “fashionable” seventy years after the Holocaust.
The film was a harsh clarion call to all to realize that much of the world is not friendly to Jews and Israel. It is clear that we must be vigilant in our support of the State of Israel and be proud of our Jewish identity wherever we live.
Gloria entertained questions and comments at the film’s conclusion and reminded all assembled of the role Jewish Federations play in fighting anti-Semitism and promoting Jewish identity. The evening ended with UJA Campaign chairmen Don Douglass and Jeff Rubel accepting the annual generous gift from the Amos Lodge Bnai Brith representatives Rick Bishop and Ed Monsky.
