Mark Silverberg’s Retirement Party

On Sunday afternoon, August 22, 2021, the Jewish Federation of NEPA hosted a retirement party honoring executive director, Mark Silverberg, for over 20 years of excellent leadership and Dolores Gruber, office manager for 30 years of devoted service.

A dessert buffet was set in the Scranton JCC’s Koppelman Auditorium and a heartwarming number of friends and supporters came to pay tribute. After a brief time on zoom for those who could not make the event, Mark entered the auditorium and the presentations began.

Master of Ceremonies, David Fallk, welcomed the assembled and thank the committee involved: Dan Cardonik, David and Rhonda Fallk, Dassy Ganz, Alan Glassman, Alan Goldstein, Mary Ann Mistysyn, Jennifer Novak, and Molly Rutta.

Speakers, each of whom spoke movingly, were: Louis Nivert (president of the Federation when Mark was hired), Esther Adelman (immediate past president), Eric Weinberg (current president), Charlie Cahn (representing the Pocono communities who joined the Federation thanks to Mark), and David Fallk, who presented Mark with a beautiful crystal sculpture from the Federation. A message was read from Seymour and Kathy Brotman, Mark’s predecessor and Tova Weiss, who founded the Holocaust Education Resource Center and the Annual Teen Symposium, offered words of tribute as well.

Finally, Mark spoke thanking everyone for coming and more (read the full text of Mark’s remarks here). Mark then presented Dolores Gruber with a lovely watch as a token of the Federation’s esteem.
