On November 10, Kristallnacht, forty members of the Jewish community met at the Scranton JCC to meet Chris Nicola and to watch the documentary “No Place on Earth” a remarkable story of survival and triumph brought to light by Chris.
It is the story of two families who hid in a cave for over 500 days to escape the Nazi Holocaust. Chris, a passionate caver by avocation, discovered familial artifacts in the cave, known as The Priest’s Grotto, in the Ukraine. Thanks to his dogged sleuthing, he discovered the Stermer and Wexler families now living in New York City and Montreal, Canada.
The movie, a mix of dramatization, interviews with survivors and Chris’ story was riveting.
Mr. Nicola introduced the film and provided answers to audience questions as well as bringing the audience up-to-date on the families. After the presentation, Mr. Nicola was available for book sales of this compelling story.
