Despite predictions of a rainy Sunday, the dedicated group of marchers from Scranton and the Poconos would not miss the annual Celebrate Israel Parade in New York City.
The weather did cooperate after all and under sunny blue skies they marched down the famous Fifth Avenue waving flags and carrying the Federation banner and a parade theme banner. There were spectators among the hundreds of thousands who shouted out to us in welcome including Micah Halpern who has been here to lecture on Mideast affairs.
After the parade the marchers continued to Teaneck, N.J. where enjoying delicious kosher food at various restaurants and shopping in local stores is another memorable part of the trip.
We were fortunate to have some newcomers this year who particularly were thrilled with the opportunity to march in support of the Jewish homeland, to make new acquaintances from NEPA and to experience a larger Jewish community.
All are grateful that the Federation subsidizes the trip to make it affordable to participate and look forward to upcoming Federation programs.
Thank you to all who participated-
