UJA Event 2021 – Heading Home

The Jewish Federation of Northeastern Pennsylvania kicked o its 2021 UJA fund-raising Campaign with a drive-in movie on September 9. The Federation screened “Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel,” which won awards at several lm festivals.

“A beautiful sunset greeted the attendees at the Federation’s kick-off to the 2021 UJA fund-raising Campaign, which took place at the Circle Drive-In Theater in Dickson City,” said organizers of the event. “Though socially distant, CDC compliant, a warm feeling permeated the group of attendees who were happy to get out and enjoy the comradery.”

The organizers noted that “Heading Home” was “an uplifting, yet poignant lm that tells the story of the famed World Baseball Classic competition of 2017 when team Israel, coming in 200th place, went on to finish in the top eight. But more than that, the movie gave us a glimpse into the lives of some of the players and their feelings on Judaism and Israel, highlighted by a trip to the Holy Land before the finals.”

The Federation would like to thank Toyota of Scranton, Nivert Metal and Riggs Asset Management, who were sponsors of the event. Also thanked were committee members Rhonda Fallk, Jennifer Novak, Leah Laury, and Molly Rutta. An additional thank you went to the Fallk and Rutta families for sponsoring “the beautiful and tasty refreshments.”

“Now, more than ever, UJA needs your gift to help our local Jewish agencies as well as the needs of the global Jewish community,” organizers added. “We hope you give generously to this year’s Campaign chaired by Mark Silverberg and Dassy Ganz.”
