2019 Pocono UJA Campaign Opening Program hailed “a Success” by all
Close to fifty people from Scranton and throughout the Poconos enjoyed a delicious dinner and a truly informative lecture at Temple Israel of the Poconos in Stroudsburg on Sunday evening October 14, 2018.
The program formally opened the Federation’s 2019 UJA Campaign for its Pocono affiliates.
Colfax Avenue Enterprises prepared a beautiful buffet including fruit and vegetable appetizers, as well as a sumptuous dinner and a wide variety of desserts. Cold and hot beverages were available to all.
Bernie Driller, representing Temple Israel of the Poconos, welcomed everyone. Doug Fink, President of the Jewish Federation of Northeastern Pennsylvania, explained to the guests the importance of Federation’s work and Esther Adelman, Administrative Vice-President of the Federation then introduced the guest speaker for the evening – Jonathan Tobin.
Tobin is the award-winning editor-in-chief of the Jewish News Service (JNS.org) and a Contributing Writer for National Review which is considered to be the nation’s preeminent conservative magazine of opinion and ideas. In addition, he is a regular columnist for the New York Post, the Federalist, Haaretz, the New York Jewish Week, MiDA and the Gatestone Institute and his specialty includes the American political scene, U.S. foreign policy as it relates to the U.S. -Israel relationship, Middle East diplomacy and the Jewish world. He was also a senior online editor for Commentary Magazine, a past editor-in-chief of the Jewish Exponent in Philadelphia, former editor of the Connecticut Jewish Ledger, and he has won many awards for his writings.
All who attended the evening found his lecture informative and “right on the money” as was reflected in the many comments and questions from the audience that followed his talk.
David Fallk, Co-Chairman with his wife Rhonda, of the Federation’s 2019 UJA Campaign closed the evening by movingly reminding the guests of the specific ways in which our UJA dollars raised in events like this and through our annual UJA Campaign solicitations help Jews in Israel and throughout the world as well as our many local and regional Jewish educational, religious, recreational, social and family service agencies in Scranton and the Poconos.
