AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF NEPA

WONDERING WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP?

DONATE NOW!

HURRICANE FLORENCE RELIEF FUND

Thousands of members of the Jewish communities of North and South Carolina, as well as many Jewish institutions, agencies and synagogues in those states, have been affected by Hurricane Florence.

Although the number of Jewish families and individuals whose homes have been devastated is yet to be determined, there is no doubt that many families in these affected areas have sustained catastrophic damage and will require our assistance.

As of September 21st, we know that Temple of Israel and Congregation B’nai Israel in Wilmington and Temple B’nai Sholem in New Bern (both in North Carolina) have already sustained significant damage and many members of the Jewish communities from those cities as well as from Myrtle Beach (in South Carolina) remain displaced.

The Jewish Federation of Raleigh (being the closest Federation to those coastal communities) and the Raleigh Jewish Family Service agency will be the central point of intake for affected families.

Their lives hang in the balance. As Jews we must do our part in relieving their suffering as we have always done when faced with national catastrophes like Hurricane Katrina (2005), Hurricane Sandy (2012) and Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria (2017).

Immediate aid is needed to help these communities get back on their feet. Afterward, rebuilding and strengthening resilience can take years. We must be there for them.

The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) has also set up a donation page for donors who wish to contribute cash or make contributions through their credit cards.  Here is the link: https://www.jewishfederations.org/Hurricane-Relief-Fund-2018.   Note, however, that with additional hurricanes anticipated during this hurricane season, JFNA has incorporated language that allows it to help victims of any hurricanes that make landfall this 2018 season.
